Scottsdale Airport has been recognized as the eighth-busiest single runway general aviation facility in the United States, according to a Forbes article published on September 28. This ranking underscores the airport’s significance in connecting Scottsdale to business travelers and visitors nationwide.
Private Aviation Demand
The Forbes article highlights the demand for private aviation and its impact on airport facilities and services. Scottsdale Airport, which manages over 160,000 takeoffs and landings annually, stands out among other airports in the ranking that typically feature multiple runways and commercial service. The airport hosts dedicated facilities for companies like NetJets and is developing a new terminal for Flexjet owners.
Economic Impact on Scottsdale
Scottsdale City Manager Greg Caton noted the airport’s vital role as a gateway to the community and its contribution to the local economy. He stated that the recognition reflects Scottsdale’s appeal as a destination for both business and leisure travel while acknowledging the efforts of the Aviation team in maintaining the airport’s quality. The airport is located about nine miles north of Old Town Scottsdale, providing easy access to local resorts, hotels, restaurants, and business areas.
Job Creation and Economic Output
According to the city’s recent economic analysis, activities at the airport and the surrounding Airpark support over 5,170 jobs, generate around $392 million in payroll, and contribute nearly $1.1 billion in annual economic output. Deputy City Manager Judy Doyle emphasized the demand for reliable access to the community and the airport’s commitment to maintaining safe and efficient operations for corporate travelers and visitors.
Scottsdale Airpark’s Significance
The Scottsdale Airpark, which encompasses the airport, is recognized as one of Arizona’s largest employment centers, housing more than 85 major companies and approximately 3,233 small and medium-sized businesses that employ over 59,000 individuals. The airport also features U.S. Customs and Border Protection services available daily, catering to international travelers who meet entry requirements.
With favorable flying conditions year-round and its proximity to key business and tourism destinations, Scottsdale Airport remains an essential asset for corporate aviation and regional connectivity.
