Scottsdale highlights the people behind everyday city services

Scottsdale is celebrating Arizona Cities & Towns Week from Oct. 18 to 24, highlighting the essential services provided by municipal employees, volunteers, and elected officials. This observance, now in its 25th year, aims to showcase the contributions of those working to support the daily lives of residents.

Spotlighting Municipal Services

City Manager Greg Caton emphasized the importance of these services, stating, “Residents count on us to get the everyday things right.” The week serves as an opportunity for residents to meet the individuals responsible for maintaining reliable water service, well-kept parks, and emergency support.

Scottsdale Water employees play a key role by operating treatment facilities, managing water and sewer infrastructure, and testing water quality. The Scottsdale Water Campus is notable for its advanced treatment processes that purify recycled water, contributing to the replenishment of the underground aquifer.

Infrastructure and Emergency Services

Street maintenance and traffic engineering crews ensure that roads, signs, and signals are in good condition, facilitating travel to work, school, and local businesses. The city’s infrastructure also includes the Indian Bend Wash Greenbelt, which features an 11-mile multiuse path designed for pedestrians and cyclists.

Emergency response services are provided by police officers, firefighters, and dispatchers who work around the clock. Their duties include investigating crimes, preventing fires, and assisting residents in emergency preparations.

Community Engagement and Resources

City employees also focus on creating recreational spaces and programs, maintaining neighborhood parks, and managing the McDowell Sonoran Preserve. They facilitate activities at libraries, pools, and recreation centers, contributing to community engagement and well-being.

The Granite Reef and Via Linda senior centers serve as vital community hubs, offering recreational programming and social services. Employees in human services assist residents in overcoming challenges and finding necessary resources, while volunteers help expand the reach of city initiatives.

Social Media Engagement

Throughout Arizona Cities & Towns Week, Scottsdale will highlight different municipal services on social media, allowing residents to gain insight into the daily work that supports their community. Residents are encouraged to follow @ScottsdaleAZgov and use the hashtag #AZCityWeek to connect with the people behind the services they rely on.
