The City of Phoenix is set to launch PHXLink on October 26, a new on-demand shared ride service aimed at enhancing public transit connectivity. This initiative is designed to link residents with existing transit options and gather data to inform future transit expansions.
Service Details and Pricing
PHXLink will function across three designated service zones in north, west, and south Phoenix. For a fare of $2 per ride, users can request transportation via the PHXLink mobile application or by phone. The service will facilitate travel between specific pickup and drop-off points within each zone, providing an efficient means for residents to reach transit centers, light rail stations, RAPID commuter routes, and other local destinations.
Goals and Objectives
According to Jesús Sapien, Public Transit Director for the City of Phoenix, the PHXLink program offers a chance to explore innovative methods of connecting residents to public transportation. The initiative aims to combine flexible, on-demand services with existing transit networks, allowing for better assessment of areas that may require additional service connections.
Additional Transit Options
Riders will also have the ability to use PHXLink to connect with the I-17 RAPID and I-10 West RAPID routes, enhancing commuting options. This new service is part of a three-year pilot program under Project EASE (Effective Access Solutions for Easing Congestion), which is backed by a $12.9 million federal Congestion Relief Grant from the Federal Highway Administration and partially funded by the City of Phoenix’s Transportation 2050 program.
