ASU graduates stand out to employers as they transition from classroom to career

Arizona State University (ASU) has achieved recognition as the second-best public university in the United States for graduate employability, according to the 2027 Global Employability University Ranking and Survey (GEURS). This ranking places ASU above notable institutions such as UCLA, the University of Michigan, and Purdue University.

ASU’s Commitment to Career Readiness

Prior to graduation, ASU students engage in various practical experiences, including pitching ideas to companies, collaborating on projects with industry partners, and participating in internships and career events. These activities reflect ASU’s approach to preparing students for their future careers.

According to Nancy Gonzales, ASU’s executive vice president and university provost, the university prioritizes equipping students with comprehensive knowledge and the ability to apply their learning in real-world contexts. She emphasized the importance of adaptability and problem-solving skills in today’s changing work environment.

Global and National Rankings

In addition to its national standing, ASU ranked 14th among all U.S. institutions and 35th globally, climbing two positions from the previous year. This places ASU ahead of prestigious universities like the University of Sydney and King’s College London.

The GEURS, developed by a consulting and polling institute, focuses on the perspectives of international employers and has been assessing universities since 2010. The survey identifies institutions that excel in preparing graduates for the workforce, considering the demand for candidates with both digital skills and strong subject knowledge.

Support Services for Students

ASU provides a range of resources to support career preparation, including digital tools for career exploration, resume refinement, interview practice, and networking opportunities. Students also benefit from mentoring, access to faculty research, and various student clubs aimed at enhancing career development.

Joanne Vogel, vice president of student services, highlighted the university’s commitment to preparing students for their careers. She noted that ASU takes seriously the trust placed in it by students and families to provide meaningful, career-connected experiences. The university’s employer partnerships include major companies such as Amazon, Intel, and Deloitte, among others.
