Turkey Trot 5K run and fitness walk returns Thanksgiving morning

The 36th Annual Turkey Trot 5K Run & Fitness Walk is set to take place on Thanksgiving morning, November 26, 2026, in Fountain Hills, offering a festive opportunity for participants to kick off the holiday with exercise and community spirit.

Event Overview

Hosted by Fountain Hills Community Services, the Turkey Trot is a cherished tradition in the Valley, featuring a 5K run and a 1.5-mile Fitness Walk. The event will commence at 7:15 a.m. on the Avenue of the Fountains, allowing plenty of time for participants to enjoy the festivities and return home for Thanksgiving celebrations. Runners and walkers will navigate through Fountain Park, renowned for its iconic fountain.

Community Engagement

Skylar Thomas, Senior Recreation Program Coordinator, emphasized that the Turkey Trot is more than just a race, highlighting it as an opportunity for friends and families to engage in outdoor fun together. The event is sponsored by The Pellegrini Group / MCO Realty.

Mayor’s Challenge

This year, the Mayor’s Challenge returns, adding an exciting twist to the competition. Mayor Gerry M. Friedel has pledged to donate $1 to charity for every runner who finishes faster than he does. Last year, the challenge successfully raised over $12,000 for the Extended Hands Food Bank, supported by contributions from local businesses.

Mayor Friedel expressed his enthusiasm for the event. He encouraged participants to strive for personal bests, reinforcing the event’s dual purpose of fitness and charity.

Registration Information

Participants must pre-register for the event, as there will be no on-site registration available on race day.
