State Forty Eight and Parks and Recreation launch T shirt to support safe hiking awareness

The City of Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department has partnered with Arizona-based apparel brand State Forty Eight to launch a limited-edition t-shirt designed to promote safe hiking practices. The “Take a Hike. Do it Right.” t-shirt aims to raise awareness about preparedness on the desert trails in Phoenix.

T-Shirt Pre-Order and Donations

Starting October 26, the t-shirt will be available for pre-order, with $5 from each sale benefiting the City of Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department’s hiking safety campaign. The funds will support initiatives focused on educating the public and engaging the community to prevent heat-related and emergency incidents while hiking.

Marty Whitfield, the Parks and Recreation Director, expressed hope that the partnership would resonate with residents and visitors alike. The initiative aims to inspire responsible hiking choices and reduce preventable injuries in the area’s preserve system.

Emphasizing Safety on the Trails

The “Take a Hike. Do it Right.” campaign underscores key safety measures for hikers, including staying hydrated, carrying sufficient water, recognizing personal limits, checking weather conditions, avoiding solitary hikes, and refraining from strenuous activities during extreme heat. The t-shirt serves as a tool to support the City’s educational efforts while highlighting these critical safety tips.

The mission behind the t-shirt holds personal significance for some community members. Chelsey McHale, a safe hiking advocate and partner with the Parks and Recreation Department, shared her motivation. Her brother, Clint McHale, tragically died while hiking on Camelback Mountain.
