Inner Canyon trails reopen in Grand Canyon National Park

Several inner-canyon trails at the Grand Canyon have reopened for hikers following repair work due to recent flooding. The South Kaibab Trail below The Tipoff and the entire River Trail, which connects the South Kaibab to the Bright Angel Trail, are now accessible.

Trail Access and Restrictions

The Bright Angel Trail between Mile-and-a-Half Resthouse and Havasupai Gardens has also reopened, though this section remains closed to stock use as crews continue to address further trail damage. Trail crews are actively working on technical repairs along the Bright Angel Trail, which may result in intermittent closures and delays. Hikers are advised to adhere to crew instructions and posted signs, as closure times may change unexpectedly. It is recommended that hikers allow extra time for their trips and expect slower travel conditions.

Water Availability and Safety Precautions

Water service will not be available at Mile-and-a-Half and Three-Mile Resthouses, nor at Havasupai Gardens, for the remainder of the winter season. Hikers are required to bring all necessary water supplies, including appropriate filtration or treatment equipment. The park advises visitors to plan their trips carefully, carry adequate supplies, and be ready for potential changes in trail conditions.

Emergency response times may be delayed in the inner canyon, and there is no guarantee of rescue. Hikers are encouraged to evaluate their abilities, prepare for changing circumstances, and understand the associated risks before embarking on their journeys.

Ongoing Closures for Safety

Certain areas remain closed to ensure public safety while recovery efforts continue. These include the Black Bridge, Silver Bridge, Phantom Ranch, and the entire North Kaibab Trail. Visitors who enter these restricted areas may face citations under the park closure order.
